Watching an Artist's Journey Come Full Circle: The Art Affair in the Hamptons

One of the highlights of my recent trip to the Hamptons wasn't just attending another summer event—it was watching a friend realize a vision that has been nearly two decades in the making.

I've known Eddy Bogaert for approximately 17 years. Long before he was curating one of the Hamptons' premier contemporary art events, we were roommates in New York City. I had a front-row seat to the beginning of his artistic journey, back when he was creating his very first piece of art. At the time, neither of us could have imagined where that first painting would eventually lead.

I also had the privilege of hosting Eddy's very first public art exhibition at my event space in New York City, Loftwoods. Looking back now, it's incredible to think that what began as a small exhibition has evolved into an event that attracts internationally recognized artists, collectors, galleries, curators, and cultural tastemakers.

That made attending The Art Affair in Southampton this summer especially meaningful.

Hosted by Eddy Bogaert, The Art Affair has become much more than an art exhibition. It is an immersive experience where contemporary art, music, luxury, hospitality, and culture come together in a way that feels authentic rather than manufactured. Throughout the evening, guests explored curated exhibitions, enjoyed live performances and DJ sets, connected over signature cocktails, and experienced thoughtfully designed luxury activations that complemented the artwork rather than competing with it.

What impressed me most was the diversity and quality of the artists represented. The event brought together established names alongside emerging talent, giving collectors and art enthusiasts the opportunity to discover new work while engaging directly with the artists themselves. It created an atmosphere where conversations happened naturally, making the evening feel more like a creative community than simply another social event.

The Hamptons has become known as a destination for art and culture during the summer months, and events like The Art Affair demonstrate why. It isn't simply about displaying artwork; it's about creating meaningful connections between artists, collectors, galleries, and people who genuinely appreciate creativity.

As someone who has watched Eddy's journey from the very beginning, I couldn't help but reflect on how far he has come. I remember the uncertainty that comes with creating something for the first time. I remember seeing him experiment, learn, and slowly develop his own artistic voice. Success stories often appear sudden from the outside, but they're almost always built over years of persistence, hard work, and continuous growth.

Seeing him now—not only as an internationally recognized artist but also as someone capable of bringing together such an impressive community of creatives—is inspiring. It serves as a reminder that every accomplished artist starts with a blank canvas, and every significant achievement begins with taking that first step.

Congratulations to Eddy on creating an event that celebrates not only contemporary art but also the relationships and conversations that make the art world so vibrant. I'm grateful to have witnessed the beginning of the journey, and it's exciting to see where it's led.
